Get Youthful Skin In Four Easy Steps

Your skin care regimen can be broken down into three or four steps: cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing, and sun protection. This may be a no-brainer for most people, but there are ways to go about them; doing too little or too much can do more damage than good to your skin. Most of the time the basic methods are the most effective, and when it comes to skin care, this mantra should be able to apply as well.

Skin cleansing seems simple enough, but make sure that you use a good cleanser which complements well with your skin type. Using bar soaps is a huge no-no; they can dry out your facial skin, and must only be used on skin from your neck, downwards. Effective cleansers are composed of oil, water, and surfactants. Your facial oil is dispersed by the oil in the product, the surfactants get rid of dirt and make up, and all of it is flushed away with water. Find the cleanser which contains the right oil content, as too much of it can clog your pores, and too little can dry them up. Cleanse your skin by first removing any residual makeup, then use warm water to loosen the pores. Apply a dime-sized dollop of cleanser before rinsing your face with lukewarm water.

Exfoliation is a must-do weekly routine. This revitalizes your skin and makes way for fresh skin cells to grow out of the old ones. There are several ways to do this. Microdermbrasion removes the surface layer of dead cells which contribute to a dulled complexion. Scrubbing the skin surface with the use of a gentle pad composed of tiny grains will work best for most skin types. Chemical peels take five years of off your face within a one-hour session, but if you want an affordable alternative, over-the-counter peels can be equally as effective. Retinoid creams exfoliate the skin, and at the same time aids in collagen production, needed for skin suppleness.

Moisturizing is the step which every normal skin regimen shouldn’t do without. People of all skin types can benefit from it, even those with oily skin. Moisturizers lock in the moisture into your skin, and if it feels tight, it’s high time that you lavish it with much-needed moisture. This is especially true for the area around the eyes, where the skin does not contain any fatty tissue, making it thins and prone to wrinkles. There are eye cream formulations which aim to thicken this region and keep it supple; but on average, your daily topical lotion will work just as well as the eye creams.

The fourth step is not necessarily part of the regimen, but is necessary for youthful skin. This involves providing your skin with protection from the sun, through a sunscreen application. Ultraviolet rays are a major contributing factor to premature aging, so ensure that your skin is well taken care of in occasions when you have to go out in the sun for extended periods. But avoid using sunscreen round-the-clock; use two moisturizers – one with sunscreen for daytime use, and the regular variety to be used before going to bed.
