They say that the Vegan Lifestyle will set you free, thus many have switched to this different way of life in hopes of becoming healthier and independent. However, going Vegan may not be the option for you. Don’t start cleaning out your refrigerator, just yet. Find out if this is indeed the kind of lifestyle that you can live with.
There has been much confusion about the difference between a vegetarian and vegan diet. To understand their dissimilarity, you first have to know that both do not eat meat products. However, a vegetarian can eat dairy products as well as eggs. Vegans, on the other hand, do not ingest any animal product and only rely on plant products for sustenance.
There are those who think that becoming a Vegan will make you unhealthy because you are not getting all the needed vitamins and minerals you need on a daily basis. Also, you will become limited as to the food that you eat. These are however false, as Vegans are one of the healthiest people. Since most of the food they eat are organic and do not contain any synthetic products, their bodies are “clean”. Vegans also have a lot of food choices, and they do not eat vegetables all day long. They do consume a wide variety of grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables.
Having a Vegan lifestyle can be advantageous in more ways than just losing weight. Although weight loss is the primary reason why many consider going Vegan, it is only one of the few rewards of this unique way of life. Those who have high cholesterol levels need not worry about serum cholesterol which can be dangerous at such high doses of ingestion. People suffering from high blood pressure can also benefit as going Vegan will permanently decrease your chances of suffering from this illness. Some forms of cancer will also not menace you, as you eat all natural foods. Those ailing from arthritis, asthma and allergies need not worry about ingesting those that can trigger their illnesses.
There are those who cannot benefit fully from a purely Vegan diet, especially athletes who need much more protein than an average person. Weight builders are a good example of those who cannot really rely on vegetables as a source of protein. Vitamin B is also essential to keeping your body healthy, and sadly a vegan diet will not be able to supplement your daily needs; unless you are willing to spend a huge amount of money for this.
At first a Vegan lifestyle will be expensive, since you will most likely be going to the farmer’s market more often since you will be buying fresh foods. But in the long run, you will be saving a lot of money as you will less likely be hospitalized for common illnesses that inflict other non-vegans. You should also take note that if you want to start this lifestyle, commitment is the key as you will be sacrificing a lot and changing your habits for long term benefits.
