Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal or Photoepilation is probably the most popular method for getting rid of excess or unwanted hairs amongst the rich and famous. Gaining popularity for its effectiveness, it’s now considered the best way to shed those unsightly body hair.

It has been dubbed the permanent hair removal system, although not entirely accurate. Unlike other methods of hair removal like shaving, electrolysis, and waxing; laser treatment is the most advanced and state of the art method. It is considered safe and is useful for larger areas in the body.

How does it Work?

It uses a laser beam to target and destroy hair follicles – thereby permanently reducing unwanted hairs. The laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. Hair Laser Removal works well with fair-skin rather than people with darker pigmentation or those with darker skin tones. However, it will not be capable of treating white or light blonde hairs because they do not have enough pigments to attract the laser. Usually, it will take you several sessions to see the results you want – about 6 to 8 sessions depending on your hair growth rate and follicle thickness. It will take 15 minutes to several hours for each treatment depending on the area to be treated. You may also encounter a temporary rash, which is common, but will soon go away in a couple of hours. There have been no other documented side effects.

Is Hair Laser Removal Safe?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration require the clearance of lasers to be used in this treatment. Also, they want manufacturers to claim that these laser treatments will result in “permanent hair reduction” rather than saying “permanent hair removal”. It is advisable to choose clean facilities with sterile equipments. Professional health care providers must also be doing the treatment. If performed properly, the treatment is safe and effective.

Areas that can be treated
The underarms, bikini line, face, breasts and pubic area are the more common regions of the body that women have treated. However, the back, legs and chest can be treated. The larger regions will take a much longer treatment session.

With the many benefits that laser treatment has for permanent hair removal, there are some other considerations that might help you in deciding if you want to go for it or not:

• Treatment can be expensive as this requires several treatments, within a span of one year to be entirely effective in reducing hair growth.
• If not performed properly, it may cause skin burning and scarring.
• It is not recommended for all, so you have to check with a health care professional before undergoing treatment.
• Requires eye protection from the laser beams
• People with diabetes, skin infections, cardiovascular system disorders as well as pregnant women are not advised to undergo the treatment.

Laser treatment for permanent hair removal does its job, despite many people contradicting its effectiveness. It will take a while and a lot of money, but the results will be fantastic.
