The porcelain veneers are one newest and most popular dental cosmetic surgeries that are available today. The porcelain veneers are razor thin skins of porcelain that are fused onto the teeth that can drastically improve the appearance of teeth. The porcelain veneers are a great method for repairing teeth that have been stained, chipped, unaligned, or that have other cosmetic defects.

The porcelain veneers were an improvement upon the previous techniques which used natural tooth enamel to be bonded onto the teeth. It is commonly known that porcelain is a very brittle substance and this makes many people worried that their porcelain veneers will easily chip or crack. But this isn’t true; when the porcelain is bonded onto the tooth it is greatly reinforced by the tooth and becomes quite durable and secure.

Advantages Of Porcelain Veneers
There are two major advantages that are often found when using porcelain veneers and that are associated with the success of the procedure. The two major benefits include the realistic look and feel of the veneers and also the stain resistant properties that are obtained once the veneers have been set in place. These two benefits drastically help increase the life like nature of the veneers and the cosmetic appeal of having the procedure completed.

Realism
The major reason that the porcelain veneers take on that realistic life like look is the fact that they are translucent. A major property found in natural teeth enamel is also translucent so this property that is naturally found in porcelain helps produce a look that is more natural. Another major factor that makes porcelain a much more suitable replacement over ceramic veneers is they way in which they reflect the light. Because the porcelain veneers so closely mimic the natural build of tooth enamel the veneer handles the light in a very similar way to a natural tooth.

Stain Resistance
One of the major problems that were found with ceramic and other cosmetic veneers was that they would attract and bond with stain much easier than the natural tooth. The porcelain veneer however has a much more stain resistant surface which is actually more stain resistant than a natural tooth.
