Defy Your Actual Age, With a Brow Lift

Cosmetic surgery has progressed in leaps and bounds in recent years, and those who inevitably bear the physical evidences of aging now have an easy method of reversing them. Frown lines are the usual first signs of old age, and those who want to defy their years have an expedient alternative with a brow lift, a procedure which involves stretching the skin on the brow, in order to get rid of the furrows.

A brow lift aims to smoothen out the horizontal lines on the forehead, as well as the vertical furrows between the brows. There are several techniques which may be employed to this end, and the classic full coronal method is the most drastic of these. It involves an extended incision which courses across the patient’s hairline (from temple to temple), and the skin is pulled up to cover the gap and diminish the wrinkles. A temporal brow lift involves an incision made slightly above both temples, and the brows are then lifted in a lateral direction. A subcutaneous brow lift creates a slanted incision on the front hair line, rather than a fascial or direct one. Minor brow lifts may also be performed with very minimal incisions behind the hairline, through the endoscopic technique. With this method, the underlying tissues are repositioned in target areas in order to create a more youthful look.

The best candidates for brow lifts are patients who are well into their middle or senior ages, those who complain of skin sags on the eyebrows, creases on the brow, and frown lines. Prior consultation is necessary in order to ascertain if the patient is in commendable health, both physically and emotionally; on the patient’s part, a realistic expectation is essential as well. The brow lift should be treated as an appearance-enhancing procedure which only aids in boosting a better self-image – it is not an aesthetic end in itself.

Ultimately though, the benefits of a brow lift are impermanent. Although the results are very much visible, its long-term effect will depend on many factors, including the patient’s genes and lifestyle. The process does not essentially cure the skin sag on the treatment area, and the wrinkles may reappear a few years following surgery. As such, most consider on scheduling for another treatment in the future.

Since most of the techniques involved in a brow lift are invasive in nature, patients should expect swollenness on the treatment area for a couple of days which follow the surgery. Strenuous activities such as straining and lifting are not recommended for at least a couple of weeks. The medications should be taken as instructed, especially the antibiotics; prolonged inflammation and a rise in body temperature may indicate an infection, and immediate medical attention is necessary. If the procedure involves multiple stitches or sutures, maintain regular contact with the operating surgeon for a few weeks following treatment, or until the incisions have thoroughly healed. Scarring might be expected, and its extent will depend on the lifting technique employed. However, since the incisions are made at discreet areas on the temples or at the hairline, the scar may be concealed with a new hairdo, or with clothing and accessories.
