Collagen Treatments For Youthful, Supple Skin

Skin wrinkles are an inevitable part of aging, but there are various ways of minimizing its prominence on your face. Cosmetic products usually are the first alternative for reducing wrinkles, but an ubiquitous condition such as this should find its niche in the cosmetic treatment industry as well. Collagen treatments are a convenient alternative for most women who want longer-lasting results in an instant. But in order to understand how collagen treatments work, a word should first be said about collagen.

Collagen is composed of fibrous protein, and is present in almost every part of your body; it supports and attaches your organs to the bones. It is also responsible for providing all of your organs with elasticity, your skin included. Indeed, it comprises 70% of your skin’s second layer, the dermis. The production of this substance decreases with age, resulting in less resilience and moisture on the skin. Fine lines start to appear; expression lines are more prominent with skin sags, and these eventually turn into the wrinkles everyone is familiar with.

Collagen treatments (in the form of injections) replace these lost substances, lending the face and lips with youthful suppleness. Collagen injections are bovine (from cows) derivatives of the substance; their use for such a purpose is approved by the government. It is a non-invasive procedure which usually takes ten to fifteen minutes to complete, depending on the treatment areas. Anesthetics are not needed, but an allergy test is made prior to the treatment. The collagen is injected underneath the skin with a syringe, so the initial puncture is the only discomfort which may be experienced during the treatment.

After the treatment, the skin may experience redness, inflammation, or tenderness, but these conditions should dissipate during the succeeding hours or days. The benefits of collagen treatments are not permanent, but you may enjoy a more youthful skin for the next three to six months before you consider on your next treatment session.

Many people consider collagen treatments as the only means of doing away with wrinkles, and this is a good presumption for several reasons: first, a fresh supply of collagen can soften fine lines on your skin; second, it also has properties which contribute to skin thickening, making it more supple to the touch; it can even lessen the prominence of acne scars and other types of depressed scars anywhere on the body; and for pregnant women, collagen can effectively improve the appearance of stretch marks.

Collagen treatments are non-invasive, and therefore not painful; your recovery period can be as short as five days after treatment. If it is undertaken under ideal conditions (and by a competent doctor), it causes no permanent damage to the skin, so those with thin skin can benefit from the treatment as well. And the procedure is not totally confined with the facial areas, since it can be administered to almost every part of the neck or body which needs an appearance enhancement. For best results, try using nutrient-enriched cosmetic products on the treated areas, and maintain the benefit by adapting an overall healthy lifestyle.
