Botox Treatment Overview

Botox injections have either become so popular or so notorious that late night comedy talk shows have “injected” it into their routines. Yes, it’s another droplet in the ever-evasive fountain of youth where those afflicted with crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles queue up to take a proverbial sip. What most people don’t know is that Botox is the trade name for A-type botulinum toxins, which work by attaching themselves to nerve endings after a botox injection treatment, thereby blocking muscle contractions so no wrinkles would be produced.

Thus, the logic of a botox injection treatment can be summed up in this short sentence: if it doesn’t move, it won’t cause a ripple. Or a wrinkle, if you want to be skin-specific about it. If you’ve read about botulism-related deaths, you’ll sort of understand the relationship between a botox injection gone wrong, and someone who died because their respiratory muscles have become paralyzed after being food poisoned. Yes, botulism can be considered a distant relative of a botox injection. But this is not to scare you away from what could be a good option to keep those wrinkles at bay.

Still, I doubt you’ll find any Hollywood-types shirking away from a good botox treatment because they fear keeling over and dying from paralysis. The eye area is probably the most popular body part to be subjected to Botox, mainly because paralysis works best for areas that get wrinkled up because of frequent squinting (or frequent laughing). Although frown and laugh lines are part of a natural process we humans call aging, the result from a botox treatment is a smoother, relatively less-lined countenance.

How long does the average effect of botox injection treatment last? Apparently, anywhere between three to four months, after which your wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown/laugh lines will again make an appearance once your muscles start to relax. An average of three to four injections will be needed in a year. Take heart, though because the effects of the treatment accumulates and you will probably need less injections in the future. As for how long a typical botox injection takes, this is another non-surgical procedure that people can get during their lunch hour office break. It takes ten minutes at the very least and up to thirty minutes depending on the areas you want treated. Make sure you do eat lunch before getting a Botox treatment, however, if you don’t want your soup dribbling down your shirt front from a recently-paralyzed mouth. Kidding. Well, sort of.

Now, barring issues of how much a botox injection treatment costs, it’s actually become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures since 2004. It seems people don’t mind that after a certain period, Botox’s Cinderella effect makes pumpkins, mice, and homespun out of their faces once more, thereby necessitating going back for another round of botox injection. At the rate that the procedure is selling like hot cakes, though, it looks like people (even non-Hollywood types) won’t allow a trifle like this to get in the way of a more youthful glow…albeit temporarily.
